They also are rich in tryptophan, an amino acid that is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin (a mood stabilizer) and also melatonin, which most adults are deficient in.
Pumpkins are also a great way to restore electrolytes to your body for recovery. A cup of cooked pumpkin has more of the refueling nutrient potassium than a banana!
Raw pumpkin seeds are delicious! You can throw them on a salad, eat a handful as a snack, and try roasting them, delicious!
Here is a quick and easy Pumpkin Protein Smoothie recipe. Not only is it delicious, but it is slammed packed with vitamins and nutrients!
Pumpkin Pie Smoothie:
- ½ cup canned pumpkin
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder
- ½ cup almond milk
- 2-3 handfuls of fresh spinach
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
- ½ cup water
- 5-6 cubes of ice
- Blend all ingredients on high speed until smooth.
